I am much more inclined to think that this name is Greek in origin, rather than Latin. To be precise: from Greek "aster" which means "star", and "philos" which means "friend."The Latin word for "friend" is "amicus" and "amator", neither of which the second part of the name Astrophel can possibly refer to. True, the first part of Astrophel could be Latin in origin, for "astrum" means "star" in Latin - but for the name as a whole, it seems more logical to conclude that Astrophel is actually Greek in origin.
