Meaning & History
This name was borne by Quintus Aridius Rufinus, a Roman consul from the early 3rd century. His name may possibly have been derived from Latin aridus meaning "dry, arid, parched". But as it is possible that he may have been a Gallo-Roman instead of a pure Roman, Aridius could also be the latinized form of a Gaulish name. Lastly, it might also be interesting to compare this name with Arrhidaeus, a Greek name that is sometimes also spelled as Arideus.
