This is a pretty name and I suppose the name could be a feminine version of Arthur. Adding a 'G' in front of the name would make Garetha, a feminine form of the masculine name Gareth which definitely would work. This name could also be short for Arethusa and again Garethusa would also work as a valid feminine name.

My name is Aretha. I love my name. It's different and unique. I also love the fact that I was named after, the #Great Aretha Franklin. #QueenOfSoul.
I don't like this name, and I don't really care for Aretha Franklin. It sounds like another name that white people think every other black woman has, when in fact that's not the case.
Seconding the person who mentioned it sounds like 'urethra', because that's what it always reminds me of too. The urethra, for those who don't know, is the tube through which you pee. Yeah, not what you want to bring to mind when you tell people baby's name.
