Hello. This morning in Sunday School I was talking to my cousin (57) about his father who was a worker at our church for over 50 years. His name was ANIS. We never thought about it being a bad name, for his character overrode any teasing that he might have gotten otherwise. One of the kindest men you could ever meet. I love how the responder showed how it's supposed to be pronounced. A-NEES. Beautiful name and unique! Just sayin' if this person with the name Anis has friends who make fun of the name, get new friends!
I heard a mother call her little girl this and I was sure I misheard but now that I see this, I know I wasn’t. I don’t care if you think it’s pretty, this is an odious name that should never be given to a girl or boy. I can’t even imagine how unbearable the teasing would be. Not even to mention job interviews, applying for college, or going on a date. “Hi, I’m John.” “Hi, I’m Anis.”.

I think the name must have been Annis, because this is a boys' name pronounced a-NEES. Let's also remember that not everyone speaks English, so the fact that someone like yourself would confuse it for an inappropriate word when seeing it written out in the English alphabet would likely not be relevant to the bearer of this name, their family and possibly everyone in their life. Thirdly, the word I assume you are thinking of is spelt with a U, not an I.
