Her research topics include smooth dynamical systems, ergodic theory, chaos theory and semisimple Lie groups. Wilkinson, in collaboration with Christian Bonatti and Sylvain Crovisier, partially resolved the twelfth problem on Stephen Smale's list of mathematical problems for the 21st Century.
