Cute name but be prepared for people to jokingly yell ALVINNNNNNNN at your kid 24/7.

I am an Alvin and the Chipmunks fan (AAAALLLVVIIIIIIINN!), and I also really like this name! I don't think of it as cringy or anything, it's really cool!
I think this sounds cute and beautiful. But it's kinda childish specifically after Alvin and the Chipmunks. Similar and close names will be : Calvin - Kelvin - Elwyn - Melvin.
My name is Alvin and I think it's not a bad name. To those who tease the name Alvin, then you should be ashamed. Even if it is associated with Alvin and the Chipmunks, the show's good. Plus it's probably more famous than any other show that your name is associated with.

It makes me think of Alvin and the Chipmunks but if you had a son named Alvin you would be able to scream AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAALLLLLLLLLLLLLVVVVVVVVVVVVVIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIINNNNNNNNNNNNNN.
If I ever have a kid, I'm probably gonna name them this. Honestly, it's not that bad a name and I'm a fan of the Chipmunks myself. I think it's a cute name.
This name makes me think of Alvin and the Chipmunks BUT the name itself isn't awful or anything. The common reactions people have towards the name Alvin reminds me of the common reactions people have towards the name Shaun (how it reminds many of a fictional character i.e. Shaun the Sheep). Anyway, I like the sound of the name Alvin. It's a cute, handsome, classic name that ages very well. :)

I can't think of this name without hearing it in a squeaky chipmunk voice.

There seem to be a lot of comments about people bearing this name being teased, but the one Alvin I know is extremely popular and everyone loves his name. I have heard the name in other contexts, but they don't immediately come to mind when I hear the name.

If you're cartoon-crazed, then yeah, you'll think of "Alvin and the Chipmunks". Okay I do too, but other than that I think Alvin is a pleasant, cute, likable name.

It'll remind people too much of Alvin and the Chipmunks. Some people might think the Chipmunks will be forgotten by the time they have kids, but they've been around since the 50s, so I don't believe they'll be going anywhere for a long time. Plus, when someone gets mad at the kid, they'll be tempted to scream, "AAAAAAAAAAAAAALLLLLLLLLLLLLVVVVVVVVVVVVIIIIIIIINNNNNNNN!"
The name sounds very old-fashioned and a bit geeky, and it even has a rather embarrassing meaning. The guy could go by Al, but he'd be ashamed to admit it's short for Alvin, not Albert. Albert is another old-fashioned and geeky name, but it sounds a bit more common.
