Alea is the Latin word for a die (as in the number cubes), and is present in the original Latin term for "the die is cast," being "Iacta Alea est." Julius Cæsar was said to have said this phrase while leading his army over the river Rubicon.
I don't think that this is a variant of Aaliyah.Alea is pronounced ah-LEH-a where I live (Germany) and it is seen as a variant of Lea and also coincides with the Latin word for "dice".
