It's similar to Alaric in that it makes me think of a wise king. Perhaps Aldric and Alaric could be brothers in a fantasy novel.

Would not be popular in Sweden, because it sounds too much like the word "aldrig" which means "never".

Aldric sounds like a cool Germanic name, but not French at all, unless it's in a historical novel taking place ages and ages ago.
