Other sources state that this name means "strong in wrath", derived from the Greek noun ἀλκή (alke) meaning "strength" combined with the Greek noun μῆνις (menis) meaning "wrath" (often of the gods). [noted -ed]
This particular etymology and the resulting meaning not only make more sense for the name than "strong moon" or "lunar strength", but also for the mythological character, since she (and also her son Heracles) was subjected to the jealous wrath of Zeus' wife, the goddess Hera.
