Alanis is one of my favorite names. It may be highly associated with Morissette, but I don’t mind. I love how it has sort of a mystical vibe in my mind. It sounds classy, unique, and just plain interesting! I prefer the pronunciation of “Uh-lawn-ihs” to “Uh-LAN-ihs,” personally. It could also be a nice alternative to the name Alana.
My daughter's name is Alanis and everybody loves her name and her personality. I knew about that name by the singer that I really respected and admired in my youth. I was looking for a name with three characteristics: beautiful, uncommon and easy to spell and I think that I got it with Alanis.
I think that this is a beatiful name, it sounds like it came from old fashioned times and isn't used often but it could work in today's society as well.

I really like this name because it is unusual and sounds tranquil and beautiful. I Like the name Alana for a girl but feel it is more commonly used now, where as Alanis is unusual and feminine. I associate names with people and their personalities and Alanis Morisette is a beautiful, independent, feminine, talented and an individual. I think it would compliment any child, especially in teenage/young adult years.
This is a hideous name, so I wouldn't recommend anyone to name their daughter this in honor of Alanis Morissette. Besides, she might very well not end up liking her music.
Oh, please! You only hate Alanis Morissette because her genre of music is not what you love. You know, I've seen your other comments, and it seems you totally HATE anything that ISN'T electronic, ambient, or shoegaze. You are an EXTREMELY opinionated person, and definitely not in a good way!But as for this name, it's pretty good! However, I prefer it pronounced uh-LAWN-iss; I hate the other pronunciation. I would actually name my daughter after Morissette herself... unlike you.
I love this name. It sounds like something from LotR. Still, I would probably not name my kid this because she would be picked on, 'nuff said. Kids are brutal to each other sometimes.

I like the name Alanis because of how uncommon it is around where I live, and how different it is to it's original Alana. I also love Alanis Morissette's music, who is Canadian, so perhaps the name Alanis was derived from Alana in Canada. Don't take my word for it though, it's a suggestion.
