This name is marked here as a masculine name, but I would give this name more for a girl than for a boy. But it's a lovely name, and it's not really important which gender you use it. It seems that some names are more for both genders than 20 years ago. I love it. Such a pretty name & the meaning is also great.
I think Ailill isn't only to use as a boy name. I think it's also possible to name a girl like this. Maybe it's even more a girl name than a boy name. But boy or girl, it's a very beautiful name. I love this name.
It sounds feminine to me too. In fact, I'm going to use it as a name for a female sim I'm making (in the Sims 2 computer game). I think it's a nice name for either gender. :)

I think that a lot of Irish/Gaelic names for men often have a slightly feminine sound to those of us who are used to the more Anglicized names. But it is a very beautiful name.
I know that this name is masculine, but I've always seen it as slightly feminine. Does anyone else here agree with me? But it is beautiful for both genders, of course. I just prefer it on a girl.
