First things first: This is a very beautiful name! I find it very appealing. Second things first: Africa is a CONTINENT, not a country, ya'll aren't thinking.
It's actually a pretty name in my opinion. Also the racism of the users really showed in the comment section, yall are pathetic. The continent is beautiful, diverse, full of history and nature. It has a strong meaning and it's a great pan africanist name.
Well, I guess some people learned something new in the comment section; Africa is a continent. I won't judge anyone, though. I'm no better and people learn things every day. Anyways, I do like place names. I'm not sure because Africa is so well-known as a continent. It doesn't sound bad, though. If it weren't a continent, I would like it more.
I really like this name. Don't see how people think it's trashy to be named after a continent or country etc. Maybe you have a special connection to a place or you want to honor your heritage. I see absolutely nothing tacky about that. It's beautiful. I think of a free spirit type of name. It's serene and graceful.

I have nothing against Africans, but I always thought it was weird to name a kid after a country.

Imagine the teasing the girl will get with this name.
A lot of people say country/continent names are 'tacky', but can anyone tell me why? I honestly can't think of a reason why it would be tacky or wrong at all to use the name if someone has a strong connection to the place, or simply likes the sound. Please, someone provide a reason.
Terrible tacky name but why does the continent Africa has to be imagined, poor hungry kids in the desert, why? America come on, stop this now. Africa is a continent not a country, there are beautiful places in Africa so why are you trying to imagine it like some small country with poverty and war? I can guarantee you America is not much better NO! America isn’t the land of the free or the home of the brave- look how much stuff in America happened in history. From racism to hate crimes to gang fights. All this stuff- why?
The person who said that Africa is tacky is just an ignorant. It's a title for Virgin Mary in Spain. Nuestra señora de la África. It's my favourite name regarding the Virgin Mary.
You think Africa is a bad name because of war. What about the name Israel? That country has so many killings of Muslims and Jews but yet no negative connotations naming a child Israel. Or the name Egypt which is very popular at the moment. Why do you hate the name Africa for a human being but not Asia?
Such an awful name. Who in their right mind would name their kid after a place known for things like poverty, famine, dictators, female circumcision, HIV, poaching, overpopulation, and ethnic and religious conflicts? I have nothing against African people, but Africa's definitely not something you want to name a kid after. I'm sure anyone using this "name" has never even been to Africa.
Might as well name your kid Tanzania Ivory Coast Congo Uganda. *rolls eyes*

Absolutely horrible on a person, male or female. This "name" is just as tacky as other "names" like America, India, Ireland and London.

I find it really funny that the name Africa has a 38% rating on this website (because naming someone after a place is just SO horrid) but Ireland has a 54% rating. More than half of the people who voted think Ireland is okay but Africa is not. And I really doubt that the difference is due to the fact that one's a continent while the other's a country.
I don't know about anyone else, but I personally WOULDN'T want to be named after a place that is literally the toilet of the world. :O.

I don't know what the heck Spain is thinking. 'Africa' is not a good name for anybody, especially a Spanish person with no ties to the continent itself whatsoever.

Why would you name your kid after Africa? Most of Africa is not exactly a good place to live due to the extreme poverty and the corrupt governments.
Sounds tacky and pathetic. I've known hundreds of black people, in my family, friends, and elsewhere, and I've never even heard of Africa as a name until I went on this site. Why would you even name your child Africa? Africa is full of poverty, wars, dictatorships, and AIDS. It also sounds like a name one of those wacky Afrocentric types would use. There are plenty of beautiful African names out there, so why not a real African name instead of sticking the kid with the name of the continent?
I don't think this name is tacky at all. It's a great name and I'd name my kid this, even if I'm not from Africa. Besides, if you're going to make a continent a name, Africa sounds the best.
I actually really like this name. It sounds pretty, but I wouldn't use it, as Africa is associated with war and poverty, a reputation I really wouldn't want to "transfer" on a child. Plus, Africa wouldn't sound right on an Irish girl (like myself). Aifric would be a more natural choice for me, but Africa is a beautiful name for a girl with African heritage or a Catholic girl.
Naming children after countries, cities, towns, etc. usually ends up in tacky names. This name is no exception to the rule. Assuming that the parents and grandparents don't hail from Africa to begin with, it seems rather pointless to name the child after a country they have no connection with.
