The Underhill Society of America shows that this name has been in use since at least the 1810s, with this exact spelling. Ada was a popular name in the 1800s at #46 in the 1880s, and Ida at #7, so Adaline is the natural spelling, though Ada is also a nickname for the spelling Adeline. Adaline is considered American in origin. Ada means happy and noble in Europe, is used in the Bible and means "adornment."
