Seeing as all biblical names are transliteration of another language, there is no real “correct biblical spelling” in English. I say, you do you. The spelling of ‘the’ was also just decided randomly from the spellings that were in use at the time spelling conventions were implemented. I would go for this spelling as an honor to both my mother and my sister who both have Gayle as their middle name.
