I’ve been very interested in names since I was a little kid. As a kid in the 80s/90s, I named my Cabbage Patch Kids, and then my trolls (first and middle names for 80+ of them), characters in stories, and so on. I even bought a baby name book as a kid. Choosing names was always an exciting, almost magical, experience. I’ve been keeping lists of my favorite names since then.
I read through every name on this site, in alphabetical order, around 2009/2010.
In 2016 I discovered that naming an actual baby is pretty different (and much harder) than naming trolls or thinking of names in an abstract way. But we ended up picking a name that fits our son perfectly.
I’m a few months into a rather obsessive “name collecting” phase. My boys list has doubled, and my girls list has quadrupled. In the past, my lists were kind of ideas that I might use for a child someday. But now I’m in my 40s. My only purpose for my “baby names” hobby is my own enjoyment. I just really like names!
