Candy Southern is the name of Angel's girlfriend in the original X-Men comics starting in the 60s. Roy Thomas and Werner Roth named her after the book Candy by Southern and Hoffenberg - another Candy namesake.
Harriet Beecher Stowe's husband and first son both bore this as a second given name - Calvin Ellis Stowe and Henry Ellis Beecher Stowe, respectively :-)
Harold Russell fought in WWII and lost both of his hands, so he was given hooks as prosthetics. He played Homer in the Best Years of Our Lives and won a special Academy Award. (You should look him up. The hooks are pretty cool.)
