A few more years into London, and Reg found herself expecting again. This time, they decided to not find out the baby's sex until birth; thus, it was a bit of a pleasant surprise for them when their third biological child was a boy! Sandra insisted that she "knew somehow, in my spine" that it was going to be a boy, and was thus overjoyed to find her hunch correct. The son was named Christopher George, called Topher for short.
Meanwhile, Erik's job as political columnist had started to disillusion him, in the sense that he was beginning to think that it did not make as much impact as he wanted to. One day, while talking with Aaron about his intentions to join the Royal Navy after taking his A Levels, they tangented to speaking of war and it similarities with peace-time crime in how they bring out the best in some people while corrupting or crushing the others. After some rumination, Erik came up with the idea of volunteering into a victim support organisation, accompanying victims of crimes to the police station, staying with them and giving them someone to talk to. It was an unexpected suggestion, but the family agreed to let him.
