Jill Atwood and Nathan Bledsoe are Americans working in Japan who meet, fall in love, and marry. Nathan is a chef in an American-style restaurant, and Jill is an actress on a Japanese soap opera. In 2012, they move back to the United States, to the little town in Maine near where Nathan grew up. In 2013, the restaurant where Nathan works burns down, and they have to move again. This time, they opt for a big city, and pick St. Louis, where Jill goes to Washington University to earn her degree--finally. In 2014, she graduates with a degree in history. In 2015, they adopt their first child, a 10-year-old boy from Kazakhstan, named Miras. He has wavy black hair and brown eyes. They add Asher as a first name, but still mostly call him Miras. In 2016, they take a family trip to England. In 2017, Jill gets ill with cancer, and quits her job as a history teacher. She recovers and in 2018, they adopt again. This time it's a 14-year-old girl from Colombia named Ester Concepción. She is mestiza, with straight black hair and black eyes. In 2019, to let the kids soak up some Americana, they take a family road trip to Virginia, and ride the roller coasters at Busch Gardens. In 2020, they take a fascinating trip to Mexico City, where they visit the zoo. Ester serves as their translator. In 2021, they celebrate Jill's 30th birthday with a weekend-long bash for lots of friends and family. In 2022, Jill gives birth to twins, a boy and a girl, who could not look any less identical. Though they both have brown eyes, the boy, Calvin Donald, has curly black hair, while the girl, Nola Chrysanth, has straight blonde hair. In 2023, they take a family trip to China. But in 2024, Nathan loses his job, and the family moves to New Mexico, where they open up a little hobby ranch with horses. In 2025, they adopt a 3-year-old Ethiopian boy named Alem Neh, who they call Ali. He has curly black hair and bright black eyes. In 2026, they take a family trip to Alagoas, Brazil, where they spend a few weeks lounging on the beach. In 2027, Nathan's beloved mother dies.
