The second son and third child of the reigning monarchs, Joseph was kept close to Court just in the case the worst should happen to his elder brother. He is a bright young man, and his young bride, Maria Elisabeth, is the lovely only daughter of one of the most loyal noblemen in Bial. They have only recently been married, though they have been engaged since Maria Elisabeth's thirteenth birthday and betrothed since childhood, since a foreign royal marriage was not practical for the second son of the king. Walter and Joseph have at times butted heads, since Joseph is perhaps a bit more headstrong than his regnant brother might like.
