The last four years have run smoothly for the Powells. The health retreat is very successful with Magda at the helm. Toby and Tamsin have had a son, Silas, to join their daughters Iris and Virva. Duncan and Ike have gotten girlfriends, although for Ike that has been not quite so smooth.
Ike and Arwen met through the local youth orchestra; Ike plays the flute and Arwen plays oboe. They started spending more time together, and Mrs Luff was very concerned for her daughter's future career since Arwen was spending less time practising. The last straw was when Arwen nearly missed a concert she had commited to for charity; Mrs Luff insisted that the relationship stop now. The next morning, Arwen and Ike were missing.
Magda and Tony had had their worries about Ike, but put it down to the normal teenage rebellion. They were very fond of Arwen. When Ike went missing they were dumbstruck: what could be happening that Ike wouldn't talk with them about?
A month later they got a postcard, from Scotland. Nothing if not traditional, Ike and Arwen had run away to marry. Unfortunately for tradition, they needed to wait a while before they could marry each other, but within the month they had become Mr and Mrs Pearson.
Magda and Tony were relieved. Magda was quite amused by it; she tried to be angry like she thought a mother should be, but it was just like something she would do. Tony was a bit less happy about it, but he was proud of his son for having the commitment and conviction to do it, even if he did go a silly way about it. Mrs Luff still isn't speaking to Arwen.
