The Latvian Karaliene, Jolanta, has recently given birth to a daughter, Princese Valda Sofija Jolanta Margarita. Her husband, Karalis Raimonds, has written to Kung Josef's advisors to ask that she be made a ward of the Swedish court - the Polish-Lithuanian Commonwealth has stationed troops near Latvia's borders, and the rulers of the small country want to make sure their first-born daughter is safe whilst they and their sons prepare for war. She has come to the court, and though she is not taking on a full Swedish name as she will hopefully be able to return to her homeland one day, the people of Sweden have affectionately nicknamed her Sonia av Lettland. Josef does not know that his ever-efficient mother had been communicating with the Latvian royalty for years, making arrangements for exchange of wards if either of the two vulnerable, pacifistic nations were to come under threat. Josef thinks Sonia is sweet, but has been spending most of his recent time with his advisors, as next year he will begin to make his own governing decisions.

The Tsarevna has arrived in Sweden, taken her new name and married the Kung! She is a very quiet young woman with an aptitude for languages and for sewing, though she shies from any mention of the affairs of state. She looks up to her new husband greatly, seeing him as the pinnacle of wisdom and marvelling at the suffering he has survived. He, on the other hand, finds her sweet and simple, a comforting solace from the grand intricacies of royal life. On visiting the Latvian royal family, she proved affectionate and maternal with Josef's beloved Sonia (or Valda as she is now once more known), qualities Josef very much admires. She has shown the same qualities more recently with their own newborn child (and heir!), Christer, who resembles her in every way. It was unanimously agreed that of course the new Furste ought to be engaged to the five-year-old Latvian Princese!

Sadly, Tatiana's brother the Tsar died this year. She has become very withdrawn, but is grateful for the comfort of her husband and children. Since Olle is engaged to his only daughter, and does himself have Russian blood, it is decided that the little boy will travel to Russia to become Georgiy Iosifovich, Tsar of Russia. He will wed his fiancée and take on royal duties when they are both of age; for now advisors are taking over the governance of Russia. The Furste is scared, but understands this is his duty. He has a serious and domineering bent and will make a good Tsar one day.

Though of course she is now, formally, Sofia av Sverige, the people still call her their old affectionate nickname. She is a clipped, intelligent woman who Christer finds slightly intimidating, but the people love her if only for the romantic nature of her story, and her new father-in-law is delighted to have her in the palace - the two spend much time together speaking on matters of history and politics. She is likely to make an excellent Drottning. The two kingdoms held a great wedding to celebrate their union after so many years of co-operation.

Christer jokes that there must have been something in the soup that day - as on meeting the newly named Viktoria's little sister, Aleksandra Svitlana Valeriya Olena Anastasiya, Theo too fell in love, although in a rather more mundane way. The two had had a competition to see who could consume the most of Hasse and Viktoria's wedding cake, and though both had been a little embarrassed, certainly neither had objected when their parents propose they be engaged.

Sonia has known for some time now that Christer was unfaithful to her, and she was not particularly concerned. They were not in love, why shouldn't he find love elsewhere? However, when his page-boy's sister gave birth to a son who looked suspiciously like her husband, Sonia panicked. She could not bear the idea of raising any child, let alone one that was not her own. In desperation she went to her husband's room in the middle of the night - the first time she had set foot in his bedroom since their wedding night - and told him that she knew all, and that if he attempted to pretend the child was hers, she would denounce him to the people and return to Latvia. They certainly aren't planning to touch one another and Christer is certainly still planning to keep touching other women. Sigrid was delighted this year to be married to the Infante Edgardo Javier Roberto Armando, a dashing young Spanish royal who was rather impressed by her extensive collection of dissected frogs. She has left, frogs in tow, for Spain, where she will become Infanta Juana Beatriz de España. The newly christened Infanta Juana when she learnt that her dear aged father passed away not a week after she left. There has been some debate over how the crown ought to be passed on - Theo has a son, but Hasse is the eldest child and could still technically produce an heir. Neither wants to be Kung, and so the decision that has been made is that Rudolf will be crowned Kung immediately. Until then, he will govern with the help of advisors, as well his father, his Farbror Hasse, some input from Viktoria and Sassa... and of course, in reality, many decisions will lie in the hands of Sonia, as everyone knows she would had been the late Josef's choice to lead. The people are still great fans of the royal family, but there is some unsureness resulting from this unorthodox decision. Tatiana mourns her husband and wishes her children luck. She is very, very proud of them.

On seeing her in her white silk on their wedding day, Hasse was entranced. He knew he would never be able to even look at another woman, and began at once a collection of love poetry. Christer jokes that there must have been something in the soup that day - as on meeting the newly named Viktoria's little sister, Aleksandra Svitlana Valeriya Olena Anastasiya, Theo too fell in love, although in a rather more mundane way. Sonia has known for some time now that Christer was unfaithful to her, and she was not particularly concerned. They were not in love, why shouldn't he find love elsewhere? When it was revealed to the country this year by a gossiping maid that Christer had been consistently unfaithful to the beloved Sonia, it was not long before the heir to the throne was found dead in his bed. There was no way that Sonia could tell the public the truth about their arrangement, and so she mourns her dear, silly husband with private guilt. Yvonne was married this year to the Greve Konrad Ludvig. Sassa doesn't say so, of course, but she is glad to have her out of the way. She never felt safe with that strange, quiet girl around her children - especially little Rudolf. Sigrid was delighted this year to be married to the Infante Edgardo Javier Roberto Armando, a dashing young Spanish royal who was rather impressed by her extensive collection of dissected frogs. She has left, frogs in tow, for Spain, where she will become Infanta Juana Beatriz de España. The newly christened Infanta Juana when she learnt that her dear aged father passed away not a week after she left. There has been some debate over how the crown ought to be passed on - Theo has a son, but Hasse is the eldest child and could still technically produce an heir. Neither wants to be Kung, and so the decision that has been made is that Rudolf will be crowned Kung immediately. Until then, he will govern with the help of advisors, as well his father, his Farbror Hasse, some input from Viktoria and Sassa... and of course, in reality, many decisions will lie in the hands of Sonia, as everyone knows she would had been the late Josef's choice to lead. The people are still great fans of the royal family, but there is some unsureness resulting from this unorthodox decision. Tatiana mourns her husband and wishes her children luck. She is very, very proud of them.
