DW: Miranda Abigail (Howard) Lowell "Mira" (curly brown hair, brown eyes)(Nurse)(24)Tony and Mira met six years ago through mutual friends. They dated for awhile before Tony proposed. They were married a month ago. Now, they live in a small flat in Germany, where Tony accepted a two year assignment there as part of his position at the UN. Mira is, by trade, a nurse. She accompanied Tony on the assignment and is working on getting her German certifications so that she can be a nurse in that company.

AS: Jonathan Marcel (Geiger) Lowell "Jon" (Germany)(straight light brown hair, blue eyes)(2)Tony and Mira have lived in Germany for a year now. Shortly after their arrival, Tony and Mira began pursuing the adoption of a little boy that Mira came across at work. He had been neglected by his parents and brought to the hospital by a concerned neighbor after they found him wandering around the hallway in nothing but a diaper. After six months, Tony and Mira were cleared to begin the adoption process. Because they hadn't lived in Germany for very long, the paperwork took a little longer to process. Finally, Jonathan Marcel Geiger became Jonathan Marcel Lowell. Tony and Mira were able to celebrate Jon's second birthday, and love having a toddler to spoil.

Fish: Vater-Fisch, Mutter-Fisch, Kleinkind-Fisch (3 guppies)Tony and Mira's two years in Germany are almost up. Tony is contemplating accepting an extension of his contract, so Jon can spend more time in his native country. Jon, now three, has been attending an afternoon preschool program so that Mira can keep working the second shift. She drops him off, then goes to work. Tony picks him up after he's finished working, and the "boys" spend the evening together. After he started going to preschool, Jon started asking for a pet. Tony and Mira finally relented and took him to pick out a few guppies, which seemed low-maintenance enough for them. They let Jon get three guppies (one for each member of the family). They're named (creatively enough), "Vater-Fisch", "Mutter-Fisch", and "Kleinkind-Fisch". Mira has already had to secretly replace two of the fish, but Jon hasn't noticed the difference, yet.

Dog: Franz (Spaniel mix)(3)Tony and Mira Lowell still live in Germany, with their little boy. Tony accepted a two year extension last year. Tony enjoys his work, and he has come to enjoy living in Germany. Mira also likes Germany, and the ability to travel around to various parts of Europe over the weekends. Jon is a happy little boy who loves going to school and playing with his friends. He discovered that Tony and Mira were replacing his guppies after seven months (and probably fifteen new guppies). He insisted that they let his beloved fish take their natural courses and not get replaced. Last month, the last one died, and Jon began pestering for a more permanent pet. After a discussion with the landlord, Tony got the okay to get a dog, as long as it was small and didn't cause too much commotion with the other tenants. The family took a trip to the shelter and picked out a sweet little spaniel named Franz. He has been a good addition to the family.

Dog: Franz (Spaniel mix)(4)Tony and Mira adopted two more children this year, twins just two months old. Tony and Mira were contacted by a neighbor whose teenage niece was pregnant and looking for someone to adopt her child. Turns out, she had twins, Karsten and Hanne. Tony and Mira adopted them officially when they were five months old. Jon was so excited to have siblings, and he has taken good care of them. He is also training Franz to be their protector. Tony's contract is up in a few months, and he and Mira are planning to return to the United States for a two year homeland assignment. Their families are both anxious to meet Jon (and now Karsten and Hanne), since the Lowell's haven't returned stateside since moving to Germany four years ago.

Dog: Franz (Spaniel mix)(5)Tony and Mira moved back to the United States ten months ago. The kids adjusted quickly, and Jon has developed an adorable German-English hybrid language. It doesn't work so well in school, but Tony and Mira have both started speaking the mixed language at home. Two weeks after returning home, Tony was assigned to an emergency humanitarian relief effort in Ecuador. He ended up spending six months there, in the process adopting a local toddler whose parents were nowhere to be found. In time, Tony began to think of her as his own. He and Mira adopted the child--and Mira had never even met her! When Tony finally returned home two and a half months ago, he came with Sara. He didn't know her middle name, but Tony and Mira decided on "Isabel". Near as doctors can tell, Sara is about two years old--though she may be a little older due to the malnourishment and impoverished conditions she was living in when she found Tony.

Dog: Franz (Spaniel mix)(6)Tony and Mira had to do a little readjusting in their family this year. Mira was laid off in February, after a round of budget cuts to the hospital. She and Tony have decided, for now, that she will be a stay-at-home-mom. Jon is still having a little trouble with school and transitioning to an all-English classroom when he speaks both German and English fluently. He can't seem to understand that not everyone in the world is bilingual. Karsten and Hanne are happy little toddlers who just started going to preschool three mornings a week. Sara, 3, is going to preschool with her twin siblings. She had trouble adjusting to life in the US and has had some lingering medical problems that only became apparent after she started getting regular medical care. Mira has a lot to keep her busy at home, especially when Tony is called away for short-term assignments out of the country.

Dog: Franz (Spaniel mix)(7)The Lowell family was involved in a car accident six months ago. They were returning from a family dinner out, and a car t-boned them at an intersection. Hanne was closest to the point of impact, and she suffered from a concussion as well as a broken arm and a fractured tibia. Everyone else had minor injuries--cuts and scrapes, mostly. Mira also suffered from a concussion as well as a sprained knee. After the accident, everyone was a little leery of getting back in a car, especially Jon. He still has nightmares about the event and gets anxious whenever he knows the family is traveling. Tony and Mira are thinking about getting him counseling.

Dog: Ollie (Golden Retriever mix)(2)This year, Tony and Mira added another canine to the family. This time, one of Tony's coworkers was being sent on a long-term assignment out of the country, and asked the family to keep his Golden Retriever mix, Ollie. Ollie is a nice dog, who gets along well with Franz. Tony's second two-year stint in the US is coming to an end. He and Mira are still talking about options for Tony's next contract. Jon, now 9, has finally made the transition to fully-English speaking in school, though he often speaks in German at home. His nightmares have stopped--it helped that Tony and Mira got a large SUV as their replacement vehicle (instead of the minivan they had before), so he felt a little safer in it. Sara, now five, just started in half-day Kindergarten. She is still a bit behind her peers due to living conditions in her early childhood, but Tony is confident she'll catch up. Karsten and Hanne remain happy little kids who speak English, German, and a smattering of Ecuadorian Spanish that Sara brought with her. Hanne has recovered well from her injuries, though her arm is still a little crooked, and she has full use of the arm.

Dog: Ollie (Golden Retriever mix)(3)This year, Tony and Mira took Sara back to visit her hometown (at least, the town where she found Tony). They left Jon and the twins with their grandparents for a week, and went to Ecuador so Sara could see some of her birth country. Sara loved the time they spent together there, and she talked about their trip for months after they'd returned to the United States. Tony and Mira decided to try and keep the kids where they are for the time being, since everyone has finally adjusted to living in the United States. Tony is thinking about taking another position in Germany in a few years, but he and Mira will cross that bridge when the time comes.

Dog: Kimmy (Bernese Mt. Dog)(3)Tony and Mira added a third dog to the family this year. Mira and Tony decided, that for their tenth wedding anniversary, they would get a dog. Since Franz and Ollie were such good additions to the family, they decided adding a female dog to the mix would be a good plan to even out the balance a little. Therefore, Kimmy joined the family. She is a Bernese Mountain Dog and dwarfs her brothers. The kids love her, and she is very tolerant with them. Jon, now 11, is doing well in school. He likes science and playing with the dogs. Sara, 7, is still small for her age (most people think she is younger than the twins), but she is in first grade this year. She is doing about average in her subjects, though being tri-lingual has made her a curiousity among her classmates. Karsten and Hanne are also in first grade. They are, incidentally, in Sara's class. Most of their classmates couldn't believe the three of them are siblings. Mira actually came in and did a presentation about adoption to the class, and she explained about why their family speaks three different languages.
