Artie grew up in Ottawa, Canada, with his mother, seven sisters and five brothers. He was the youngest, and while his mother was pregnant, his father, an officer in the army, died in battle. Luckily for Artie, his oldest siblings were old enough to support the big family, even when their father was gone. All in all, Artie had a very happy upbringing, but he had one regret: there were almost no photos of his father. No one in his big family had cared much for cameras and therefore no part of Artie's father's life was documented. This caused Artie to buy a camera and start taking pictures of everything, especially his family. His hobby eventually became an occupation and he started working as a commercial photographer.
Meanwhile, Artie's future wife, Carmen, had a completely different upbringing in Siena, Italy. After her mother had walked out on their family when Carmen was three years old, Carmen lived alone with her dad. He was a truck driver, so she travelled around a lot and got a taste of life on the road. She dropped out of school to pursue a modelling career, travelling all over the world and ended up in Canada. That's how she met Artie, as he was working as the photographer at one of her photo shoots. After the shoot, they went out to have a drink and that way, they started dating. Carmen revealed to Artie that she had secretly had a passion for photography for years and he helped her out and borrowed his old cameras to her. Together they expanded Artie's studio and decided to live permanently in Mexico together and moved their business there. They married two years and eight months after they first met.
Five months after their wedding, Carmen had their first child, a son. They gave him an English first name, Jasper, and an Italian middle name, Antonio. They continued with that naming rule for all their children.
Artie & Carmen have Jasper, George, Will, Peter, Ringo & Ben.
