With the empire doing well under Oberon's rule, he is growing in confidence and feels secure in making more ambitious moves. The outlands past the empire's borders have one region that has been a somewhat troubling presence on the radar for a while; while never openly aggressive towards the Empire, they are staunch in their desire for independence and are seen as a strange, hostile people. With a drought predicted, the empire in a time of wealth as well as happiness at the news of Vivian's new pregnancy, Oberon feels the time is right to launch a plan to create a relationship with the Sun Clan, as they call themselves, for trade and support. Although his councillors know many people would be wary about this, fearing he sympathized too much with those who blatantly shunned the empire, they see the reason behind it and do not discourage him. Rumours of a threat from Sun Clan militia soon After discreetly sending ranger envoys and starting negotiations, Oberon sweats about his decision, but is still convinced it is what is necessary, even if many may not see the situation through his eyes. Soon the birth of his son takes over his attention, and in the same week positive replies and an offer of bread from the Sun Clan come through. It is an auspicious time. Oberon and Vivian name their son Tarquin, after a historical figure who helped to unite the Empire in its early days; Oberon after his father, as befits an heir; and Dara, which means "wealthy," signifying the prosperity in the realm at the time of his birth.
