DW: Dr. Eliora Tikva Cohen "Liora" (24)Declan O'Connell was born to a young mother and father, barely a year out of high school. At the time, his father Rory was newly enlisted in the US Army and was serving overseas. His mother Brighid, whose own family wasn't very accepting of the young couple, moved in with Rory's parents. She was scared about being a young mother, but Rory's parents were incredibly supportive and Rory was a great help when he was home from his duties. Declan's middle name was due to the music she listened to to calm herself down when she was pregnant. When Declan was done with HIS high school career, he was unsure of what he wanted to do. So, he worked for a few years, interning at an architectural firm before deciding to attend Harvard and concentrate on a future in the field.Eliora Cohen's young childhood was quite a bit rougher then Declan's. She was born in Israel, where her mother died in childbirth. Her father Gideon raised her by himself, doing well for almost four years. Barely six months before she was to turn four, Gideon was diagnosed with a very serious malignant brain tumor and given only six months to live. Having no immediate family left, Gideon was unsure of what to do. He finally decided to call his best friend from his days in the Israeli army, Ariel Roth, who was living in Virginia with his wife Julia and their adoptive son Misha. The Roth family came to stay with Gideon and Eliora in Israel for Gideon's last few months. He passed away a few weeks after Eliora's fourth birthday. Once the little girl had some time to adjust to the death, she went with the Roths back to Virginia. 12 years later, 16-year-old Liora was a relatively well-adjusted teenager with just a few occasional lingering emotional issues from her father's death. She grew into an incredibly intelligent young lady, skipping two grades to graduate high school at age 16. Her next step was to attend Harvard to study medicine.Declan, then 21, and Liora ended up on the same floor for their freshman year. After their introductory floor meeting on the first night, they both ended up as the last two to leave the room. Liora was having a bit of a rough moment, as some of the discussion had focused on the students' parents. Declan noticed she was upset, stayed with her just sitting for a while. He then took her to one of his favorite diners close to campus, to get her his favorite "cheer-up" drink - a nice big milkshake. It helped to coax a few smiles on Liora's face and got her to open up. The two of them then became close friends, and slowly they began a relationship.Cut to 8 years later, the two have been married since the summer right after graduation (when Declan was 25 and Liora was 20). The whole of both families (Declan's parents and grandparents, Eliora's adoptive parents and siblings) can see how perfect a fit the two make. Declan finished up his undergraduate architecture program and a masters specialization. He has been working at the firm he did his earlier internship in. Liora just finished up her fourth year of medical school, and has begun her internship. She hopes to focus in oncology and pioneer some treatment to help with late-stage cancers like her father's.Declan and Liora have decided that they would like to have a mixed family of biological and adopted kids. They are ready for a big family, like the one Liora became a part of when she moved with the Roths in the US. The adoptive kids they plan to take would be from a wide range of locations. They are willing to take in disabled like Eliora's brother Lucas Elijah, who has asthma and her sister Carolina who is deaf. After talking, they also agreed on occasionally taking in young parents/pregnant teenagers like Declan's paternal grandparents had done for his mother when her parents kicked her out.Family Trees, for funsies (and because they're big - no need to copy this part, I'll do that.)The O'Connell Family
