RS: Mathilde Jeanne (4)Rosalie used to be a poor street performer, a dancer, in the city of Jaquard, the largest city of Ardelus. She was supporting herself, her widowed invalid mother, and her four younger sisters with the money people would throw into her tambourine at the end of her performances. At one performance, a young many her age, dressed like a merchant's son, stayed and watched her for hours. This was Gabriel. He was the son of a former palace clerk who had joined politics, and he was captivated by this beautiful girl. The movements of her slim body and the daring acrobatics she performed were one thing, but more interesting to him was the spirit and intelligence that crackled in her wide blue eyes, the mysterious smile playing at her rosy mouth, and the knowing allure in the way she swung her long black curls. He felt as if she were performing straight for him, which after a while she was. Rosalie thought this gentleman--for such she supposed him--to be very handsome, with tawny-auburn hair and light crystal-blue eyes and his lean but well-formed figure, and she liked that his stares were not leers like she often got. He began to come watch her every afternoon, and eventually the two began to talk, then to fall in love. Gabriel and Rosalie married shortly after her seventeenth birthday, taking in Rosalie's mother and sisters. Her mother died shortly after her marriage, and Rosalie and Gabriel are now raising her sisters. They live in their own home outside the city, where Gabriel writes political pamphlets and essays and Rosalie writes poetry. They are becoming quite famous as a literary couple, and everyone is astounded by the talent of the former-begger Rosalie.
