In the Kingdom of: GrenarbourFor many years, King Miles and Queen Katherine ruled Grenarbour with little problems. Grumblings and rumors still existed about the lack of a male heir to Miles' throne; however, Miles became busy with other domestic issues, and a war between one of his allies and a neighboring country that lasted for four years. Kate was busy as well, acting as liasion between her people and the Grenarbourians and traveling the countryside to bolster support for the royal family. Kate suffered two miscarriages--one when the twins were two, and one when the twins were three and a half. The kingdom had almost given up hope for another royal child when Queen Katherine broke the news that she was pregnant. Unlike her other pregnancies, this one seemed to be going well, at least from Kate's point of view. However, she didn't gain any weight and seemed to be growing paler with each passing day. When she was about seven and a half months along, Queen Katherine passed away in her sleep. By chance that night, King Miles went to wake her and consult about one matter or another, but found he could not wake her. He called the doctors, who pronounced her dead. They were able to save the baby, however, and found that it was a boy. Miles was stricken by grief, because despite the rumors going around about Kate's loyalties, King Miles loved her dearly.
The small infant went without a name for three weeks while the King mourned his wife's death. The entire kingdom mourned, but Miles and the princesses most deeply. After three weeks, the royal council told Miles that he had better start acting like a king again and at least name his child. After all, the people of Grenarbour were waiting to see what their new prince was named. King Miles wasn't sure what to name the child--clearly he wasn't thinking straight--so, he asked his daughters, Princesses Wren, Sunnie, and Ellie, to name their little brother. Wren chose the name "Marius" because it sounded like her deceased grandfather King Marcus I's name. Sunnie chose the name "Amabilis" because one of her nursemaids told her it was a good, solid name, and would honor her mother's memory. Ellie chose the name "Edward" because she figured all the other boys in the family had the name Edward somewhere, so her newest little brother should have it too. Thus, Prince Marius was named. He has been a stubborn child, right from the beginning. The doctors didn't believe he'd survive, but he tricked them all and is now one of the healthiest babies they've ever seen.
A year after Queen Katherine's death, King Miles decided to take another wife. He found that relying only on his royal council for advice was wearing on him--as was the decision-making responsibilities for four children. Fortunately, when Marquess Jurian turned sixteen, King Miles made him a Page and apprenticed him to a Knight in the Royal Guard so that he could learn, and eventually become a knight for the kingdom of Grenarbour. King Miles chose his wife carefully, and after some convincing, married the Duchess of Westfarthing, Isabella Idonea Clarisse Wirenth. The Duchess had married once, when she was very young, but her husband, the Duke, was drowned in the river when he fell off of a ship. Bella, as she prefers to be called, never expected to marry King Miles, but she always admired him. King Miles and Queen Bella work well together, and already Bella has suggested a myriad of improvements to make the kingdom run more smoothly. King Miles is thinking about making her an honorary ambassador--she has such great diplomatic ideas.
