the meaning of romilly
Does anyone know the meaning/history of the name Romilly? The only thing I do know about it is that it was/is an old French surname but I am considering using it for my daughter, but I'd feel uncomfortable doing so without knowing its meaning or at least a fact or two about it. I have been searching everywhere I could think of, trying to come up with something. Hope you have some ideas!
Thank you,
Isobel

I'm sure Pavlos is right, he usually is on such things. I think the name Romilly is very pretty, and certainly uncommon, at least in the United States. In case you're intersted, other similar forms of the name include: Roma (Latin-meaning from Rome), and Romy (French-a familiar form of Romaine, which means, you guessed it, from Rome).
In English, Romy is another form of Rosemary. Good luck deciding on the perfect name.

...and lemme also add the correct (froggy) pronounciation of Romilly is:
Romi-YEE.

Romilly is indeed a French surname, and it is ultimately derived from "Rome" (possibly "person from Rome").
