Re: Skyla?

Schuyler. It's a Dutch surname, and because North America was originally colonised by the Dutch (though not for long) some Dutch names have formed part of their naming stock - Roosevelt, for instance, and places like Harlem.
The fashion in the STates for using surnames as first names has led some parents to name their sons and/or daughters Schuyler, which they are unable or unwilling to pronounce in a Dutch way! Hence they say it like Skyla or Skylar, and spell it to match.
Congratulations - you are ahead of the trend!
