A while ago I came across the name Alafair on this board and have been fascinated by how long its been used but fairly unknown where it originates from. Does anyone have any similar names?

Paralee is quite similar to Alafair in being a female name that's been used in the Southern USA for a couple of centuries without people being able to track down its origin.

Aikaterine, the original form of Katherine, really has an unknown origin though there are lots of guesses.
