Adelais pronunciation
I encoutnered this name in my family tree as well as in my Charlotte Yonge's History of Christian Names and the look of it and the history of it certainly intrigues me, but I am unsure of the pronunciation.
Since it was Norman, I would pronounce it like Ah deh lay but since it was contracted to eventually form Alice, this doesn't seem right and the -s would have been pronounced.
Anyone know?

I would have assumed it was spelt Adalaïs
with this pronounciation? Like Anaïs.
"But it?s all right now.
I learned my lesson well.
You see you can?t please everyone
So you got to please yourself."
Rick Nelson, Garden Party

What happened?
I meant with two dots over the I. I have been able to write this letter before.

They're punctuation pets . . .

If there were no accent marks on the 'E' preceding the 'L' or on the 'I' preceding the 'S', I'm going to guess the name is pronounced 'ahd-LAY'.

Well, Adélaïde is today pr. a-day-la-EED in (Anglo-)French... so I would give an educated guess that Adelais (Adélaïs?) could've been pr. a-day-la-EES. Contract a-day-la-EES and you'll get a-LEES, which is the modern French. pr. of Alice according to BtN.
But I still could be way, way off though.
