About a name I can't find anywhere
I love the name Kina but I can't find it at all. I've only seen one person with that name and it's a girl on MTV reality shows so I know that it's out there somewhere. I was wondering if anybody could tell me the origin and meaning of it. Thanks so much!

Such very short and "good-sounding" names like Kina tend to occur in several languages, all with different origin, e.g. as short forms of other names that become names of their own right over time, as stated in this earlier post about this name on this forum:
http://www.behindthename.com/bb/arcview.php?id=34388&board=genKina is in several languages the name for China, the country, as can be seen here:

It seems to be the name for China in Hawaii as well, which might or might not be the origin of the "Hawaiian" name Kina - it is sometimes difficult with the reliability of those baby name websites...It surprises me a bit that you say you cannot find this name anywhere. As I checked this name with Google I had the opposite problem: This short letter combination Kina occurs so frequently in so many contexts as name and as normal word that is difficult to find meanings between all this, and as I said there are probably many origins with as many resulting meanings.

Kina would also be the Hawaiian language form of Dina, Dinah, Gina, and Tina.

Was it pronounce like kee-nah? If so then one possibility is that it's a feminine form of the Irish name Cian (Kean or Kian) which means "ancient" in Gaelic.
It could also be Hawaiian or Indian? Image hosting by Photobucket
