Origin of name

My great-grandfather was named Iselin in the 1830s. We are tying to learn the name's origin.

According to Seibicke*, ISELIN is a short form (I would say: pet form) of names beginning with IS(EN) (such as Isger). This name element is itself shortened from "isarn," Germanic *isarna, Old High German "isarn," iron. * Wilfried Seibicke: Deutsches Historisches Vornamenbuch, Berlin 1996-2006
