Well, well! Just like Stalin (= Steel). I wonder if it really was his name, or if he adopted it to fit his image.
I've seen him referred to as Timur the Lame in old histories. Does Lenk mean: chieftain, or is it part of his name? (I assume that the Lame bit is a false etymology - am I right?)

It means "Iron" and its not lenk...his full name was tamerlane or timur the lame...he lost one of his legs in battle..hence the name tamerlane
