This site lists Micaela and Michela as Italian feminine forms of Michael. Does anyone here know if one form is considered more "correct" than the other or if one form is used more frequently? Also, are they pronounced the same (I'm assuming it's me-KAY-la)?

Not in Italian. Micaela would be mee-cah-el-ah and Michela would be mee-keh-lah. Micaela comes from Michael, and Michela from Michel.

Are you saying that they're pr. differently or one or more isn't Italian? I'm confused. ;-) And if they are Italian (as this site maintains), aren't they both derived from the Italian masculine name, Michele? Anyway, I can see how the pr. differ.

They are pron. differently and I think both are used in Italy. Maybe in Italian there is only Michele, but the two feminine forms show that there are two names: Michael and Michel. The first is from the Hebrew "who is like G-d?", and the second from the Hebrew "one who asks". :)

English-speakers...

Use both Michelle and Michaela regularly for girls. Yet we only seem to use Michael regularly for boys. I bet this pattern's the same for Italy regarding Michela and Micaela.
