My Moms name is Regá and all her life her mom told her it was a French name. However we know many French persons and all of them have said they have never heard of that name. Thanks.

Rega is not a French name. The accent on the last letter is totally "not French". I'm thinking of a form of Régine (Regine), Regina...

Régis (Regis). The name is most well-known in English-speaking countries through Regis Philbin (no accent), who was named after a school iirc.
