Re: Is Fayne a real name?
Yes, it is a real name. I've never seen it spelt like that, but my great grandmother's name was Fanny. I suggest not naming your kid this because of the teasing that would likely come with it.A lot of parents feel the need to "vary" the spelling of their children's name to make the name "unique." I think it's awful. Imagine your name being spelt wrong all the time! Everyone always spelt my name wrong and it's VERY annoying.-Lori

"Fanny" and "Fayne" are two unrelated names -- "Fanny" being a pet form of the name "Frances". "Fayne" isn't a "unique" spelling of "Fanny" -- it's a legitmate spelling of a name which was in use during the Middle Ages. While "Fanny" may be a name likely to elicit teasing (being a another word for one's backside or, in Australia, another word for vagina), I fail to see anything wrong with the name "Fayne".Personally, I think it's a lovely name.-- Nanaea

My wife's given name is Fayne. The family story is that when my wife's maternal grandparents were seeking a name for their daughter, the grandfather selected Fayne as the middle name on the basis of the exemplary character of the heroine Fayne in
a story he was reading. My wife was given her mother's middle name as her own first name.We have searched unsuccessfully for the story that started it all. We are collecting interesting occurrences of the name Fayne. Recently we acquired a decorative plate from a series dubbed "Lady Fayne".Paul

Lori thank you for giving me a hint as to my mother's name. Her first name is Fayne and when she asked her mother where it came from her Mom didn't know but she had heard it somewhere and liked it. Please give me more information so that I can share it with my mother who was born in 1927 and now 75 years old.Marsha
