There is a village in the Andalucia region of spain called Maro about 53 miles from Malaga.Also the name of a saint also known as Maro of Beit-Marun; Maron hermit who dedicated a pagan temple to the of worship to god said to have been able to heal both physical and vices.Hope this is of some use

Which came first the village or the saint?, Unsure on this one the village dates back to early christian era, with a roman fort being built, On the other hand the saint died in 435AD also early christian era so could be one or other or both.
