Names like this "may" be geographic (place name) in origin. The -em ending is found in a few towns in Germany and Belgium (e.g., Berchem), but the likely geographic source of these names in the US would be as a spelling variant of English place names.
Finchem may be from Fincham, a town in Norfolk whose name means "a homestead frequented by finches".
Tellem (if you've actually seen that name), I can't find as a comparable example, so there well may be an etymological source other than geographic. Anyone?
