...actually "Satin" -- according to the Oxford English Dictionary -- *is* an obsolete form of Satan.
As far as the "silk" connection is concerned, the Latin "satinus" is believed to have been brought west from China my middle-eastern traders: "szutuan" means silk in Mandarin.
