Re: If anybody can answer, I have a question regarding Isis in Arabic
in reply to a message by Gaia
So it depends very much, what Isis you chose. For the Egyptian goddess Isis, the Arabic form is إيزيس (Īzīs), and I think this is the most name-related meaning. Modern bearers of the name Isis are also arabised like this, e.g., إيزيس فينلاي (Īzīs Fynlāy) is Isis Finlay. The "Islamic State" ISIS has an acronym as a name, and it is created by translating the words forming an Arabic acronym in the original. So it is not related to the English pronunciation of ISIS but something completely different, rendered—as you noted—as Daesh in English Romanisation.
