I've heard it's from Aleksandr - Aleksasha - Sasha. (The latter two are pet forms or hypocorisms).
Every language has its own suffixes for pet names. In russian it's -sha-: Maria - Masha, Pavel - Pasha, Daria - Dasha.

Uh-Huh..Interesting. Thanks.I don’t know why I got downvoted for that question. Either it because of the context or asking how you get Sasha from Alexander is a dumb question.

Probably because of the "how in the hell" which I will admit took me aback to read. Different language snd cultures have different naming traditions and that's not a "how in the hell" situation.It's a valid question, but look at the questions about Dick and Hank around this one for how to phrase the same question more respectfully.

There are even more "mysterious" cases like: Zhenya from Evgeniy, Vova from Vladimir...
But still, even that could be explained.
