Babynames.com is a very good naming site. I speak as a member of it for four years. It's worth paying for!

I'm a member too - the meanings/origins are generally unreliable :)

I am also a member there. The name database is near-useless; The meanings are mostly way off. But the FORUMS - They are friendly, more mature than most, and very active...but not free.

Can anyone tell me the meaning of the name Helminger? I have also found it spelled on gravestones, Hellminger. I would appreciate any help. Thank you. Kathy Helminger

I think HELMINGER is a personal name derived from the place-name Helming. As far as I can see, there are three places by that name in Germany and they are all located in Bavaria. The place-name again probably goes back to a personal name with the Germanic element "Helm" (helmet), like Helmfried or Helmbrecht. I wouldn't get confused by the double L.Hope this helps.Andy ;—)

well...Some of the meanings are wrong and some of them are not. It's better than one of my baby names books though, so I have to give it some credit.-Seda*

Lol . . .. . . that's not saying much, given some of the shockers of name books that I've seen."sometimes accurate" doesn't equal "accurate". And the odd points of accuracy don't excuse the massive mis-information that sites like that perpetrate.Compared to the painstaking accuracy - and acknowledgement of missing knowledge - at BtN, babynames.com is just mush. But I'm sure you know that! :-D
