Re: The name Zhalia
in reply to a message by Carter Casterwill
I did a search on LinkedIn for the name "Zhalia", and according to that, there are only a few bearers worldwide. None of them come from a specific part of the world, with one bearer from Russia, two from Mexico, one from Malaysia, one from Australia, etc...
Now if you look on the user-submitted page for "Zhalia", the usage states: English (Rare) and Spanish (Latin American, Rare). The source used for it is different from the one I used, and the results are different.
So, I can't really say for certain where the name comes from, maybe it was created just for that TV show. Maybe it's some newly-invented modern name just to be trendy or something. It's hard to say. Many names have obscure meanings and origins, so I'm not surprised that I wasn't able to find the meaning of this one. I know this probably isn't the answer you wanted, but yeah, the origin is unknown. The closest name to Zhalia I can think of is Zhaleh, but I doubt that this name is of Persian origin.
Here's the LinkedIn page if you want to see for yourself: https://www.linkedin.com/search/results/people/?keywords=Zhalia&origin=GLOBAL_SEARCH_HEADER

It is also in the Dothraki (Game of Thrones) language dictionary as meaning "butterfly". I am curious to know where Game of Thrones writers obtained it to create the meaning

I think it is short for Rosalia/Rozalia.
Rozalia=Zalia=Zhalia
Rosa=Rose
Lilium=Lily
Nowadays It may be considered as four different names,standig alone.
Rosalia is a name of latin origin anyway.Talking about Huntik it is an Italian cartoon i na one way or another(with american cooperation if i am not mistaking).It also could have origineted from name Rozalinda(Rosalinda).
Salia=Zhalia
Rosalinda is german name,when Rosalia is Italian.
In german language we're readin "s" as "z".
Rosalinda
Rosa=Rose
Linda=Linda
Sali(nd)a=Salia=Zhalia

It could possibly derive from AZALEA .
