Well, there's a plant named Carvia Callosa, here's the link:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Strobilanthes_callosus - here it say's that the plant is found in India, so that could possibly explain why it's used in China.
And Karvia is a municipality in Finland: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Karvia
