Was her family Catholic? If so, perhaps they were trying for Mendana and getting a bit confused?

The more info you have on her parents the easier it is to unearth this one but it doesn't look to me like they would be inclined to name after battles - with Roxanna and Philena they seem either meaning or literary/historical namers.
