In Gone With the Wind, the character of Scarlett O'Hara is said to have been given her name because it was her grandmother's surname. Scarlett is an English surname, and there are examples in census records in both the US and England during the 19th and early 20th centuries of people whose surname is spelled Scarlette, though it's hard to find evidence of that particular spelling being used for sure as a form of the surname today.
