Bascot comes from basc, "Basque", and the ending -ot (Occitan, Catalan and French), which is not diminutive but augmentative and in some cases despective; it is a hypochoristical suffixe, but an augmentative one and not diminutive, as could be -ic.
In origin, Bascot was a surname for someone from the Basque country.

Thanks. I wondered if Basc- might refer to Basque but dismissed the thought because I didn't know people in the Middle Ages would be named for that group.
