Re: Elling (Norway)
in reply to a message by Mari
Hi Mari,Yes, Elling is a real name and it is used in Norway. At the moment it is not very popular - there are just about 500 Ellings in Norway at the moment.
The name used to be more popular around 1900 - 1920.It is a form of the name Erling which is used more often but which is quite old fashioned nowadays as well.Erling derives from the Old Norse name Erlingr which means "belonging to the jarl" or "son of the jarl".Jarl / Jarle are first names as well (a Jarl is an Earl in English)Regards, Satu
