It's a thread about exactly this question. Basically they say that catiche is the word for an otter's burrow, and that it's not used in France -- all evidence puts it in French-speaking Louisiana and Canada. A French Canadian dictionary gives me the definition "effeminate" and says that it is not used in France.
Your guess of the pronunciation is correct for French, unless there's a dialectical difference in Canada/Louisiana.
